The Rolls Royce has been a symbol of opulence and luxury since its inception. The company has been responsible for setting the benchmark when it comes to luxury cars. Luxury car manufacturers have always striven to match up to the standards set by Rolls Royce. The company ha returned into the scene with a big bang developing their trade mark vehicles with a modernistic approach and thus once again becoming kings of the luxury car industry.
The foundations off the company were laid back in 1906 and the first ever six cylinders Silver Ghost was released the same year. It could be seen that the company was focused on excellence and innovation right from the start. No wonder it won the best car in the world award. Then came the Phantom I in the 20’s. This car incorporated the mist advanced technology of its time including detachable cylinder heads and pushrod operated overhead valve engine. The mechanical construction of the Phantom was so superb that for years the company maintained the same mechanical configuration.
The 40’s saw the birth of the Silver Wraith. It was only after this last model that Rolls Royce began to produce all its body craft in house. A decade later Rolls Royce released the muscular Phantom IV. This particular model is known to be the most exclusive Rolls Royce in the history of the company’s production. Cloud I and II were also Rolls Royce variants produced during the time with Silver Cloud III, Silver Shadow and Phantom VI following in the next decade.
The 70’s saw a decline in the business of Rolls Royce and it went it to bankruptcy because of problems with an engine contract. This eventually led to the nationalization of Rolls Royce by the British government. The 80’s saw the return of the new age Rolls Royce with the release of the Silver Spirit. The look of the car catered to the modern tastes of the people and the car was also engineered to meet the international safety regulations. The 90’s saw Rolls Royce coming in to the action once again as it offered the Marque up for sale. With the top two contenders being BMW and VW, Rolls Royce was making headlines once again. Although modern times have seen BMW as being on the top of the luxury car mountain the return of Rolls Royce in to the scene has knocked it off the top spot. Rolls Royce has once again established itself as one of the best luxury car manufacturers in the world.
