The trail of color that just zipped past by you was a Porsche
The year 2003 saw something that was never deemed possible until a few years ago. Much to everyone’s surprise the world famous car manufacturers Porsche entered the Indian automobile market. The super premium car segment saw the release of their sports cars and SUV’s in India. Although they started off on a small scale they believed that the market potential of India was such that it could reap great rewards in the future. A 1996 model Porsche Boxster which is one of the smallest and most affordable cars from the company was released in India in 2004.
The car gets its name from the unique positioning of its engine under the hood. Mixed with the word roadster due to the fact that the car is a convertible was derived the name Boxster. In India the car was released in two variants; the Porsche Boxster standard version and the Porsche Boxster S. The one thing common about both the variants is that they have the same superb six cylinder engine that has 4 valve cylinder heads. To increase the power delivery and torque of the car each cylinder is fitted with VariocCam Plus.
This compact little speedster can rank up a power output of about 180 kW the S version goes even further by delivering 217 kW. The braking system on the Porsche Boxster is the trademark advanced system developed by Porsche for their cars. Both the front and rear brakes are fitted to four piston monobloc aluminum along with calipers. To prevent the brakes from heating up they have been deigned to provide ventilation by sucking in air from the front of the car. This prevents the brakes from wearing out quickly and ensures effective braking as well.
An advanced safety feature has been developed by Porsche known as the PSM. This system detects the direction, acceleration speed, lateral and yaw velocity of the car while making long and winding turns. It is an automatic function thereby which the brakes are locked on different wheels in order to correct unbalanced steering of the car. This helps to keep the car in control. Slide impact protection and front and rear roll over protection features keep the driver safe and sound as he zips through the tracks. You won’t have trouble finding parking space for this little machine as it has the ability to fit into the tightest of spots. But finding the right kind of roads to take your Porsche for a spin in India can be a daunting task.
