Maruti Eeco, Latest car launched by Maruti

Maruti Suzuki threw form to the wind when it launched its new mini-van Eeco to Indian consumers this month. Instead, the leading car manufacturer opted for functionality sans beauty. Their marketing resources may have gone awry.

The company brags that the new Eeco suits large families of five to seven while meeting Indian emission requirements. The highlight of the vehicle is its alleged “duel use.” In other words, buyers will not have a music system but…they will be able to travel on weekenders AND haul bulk amounts of cement mix for that new addition to their flat!

As if the mini-van cum flat bed is not enough to captivate the imaginations of potential buyers, the Eeco’s designers offer a vintage feature. Passengers must install their own entertainment. This aluminum can is sold without a music system of any kind. Yes, you read that correctly. One may safely assume it was a measure to keep the Eeco squeaky “green” and, perhaps, a bit cheaper. Since modern technology is not included in its listed price of 2.5 lakhs, buyers ought to calculate the additional fees the van requires for 21st century use. Can you imagine traveling to Amritsar with the kids and in-laws without some kind of media to run interference? The mini “square” comes with a tinted windows option to conceal any eruptions of familial violence from the sight of other passenger cars.

On the brighter side, the driver’s armrest is equipped with a cup holder for a tasty beverage. This is a necessity for those long waits behind the wheel at stores and malls. You see, the size and shape of the Eeco makes it impractical for efficient and convenient parking in any major Indian metros.

Perhaps this vehicle may, in fact, benefit families on a strained budget who have few expectations for their ride. If they are willing to forgo safety features, comfort and style, then the Eeco is the newest invention made for them. Yet, with so many eye-sores on the roads these days, this particular van ought to be recycled for its parts at the nearest chop-shop.
