Mahindra Scorpio is for the Man-Child
It has been said that some men never grow up and their toys simply get bigger and more expensive. This sort of guy is called a man-child and Mahindra recently rolled out a giant toy just for him: the Mahindra Micro Hybrid Special Edition. Makers of the Scorpio claim that it is the product of “aggressive innovation” for “the man, the machine, the experience.” Taken together, this formula adds up to the perfect Peter Pan experience for the boy inside the man.
A man-child rarely goes for sensibility because everything boils down to the cool factor. But, in this particular case, the Scorpio has one sensible aspect: its price. Priced between seven and nine Lakhs, this super-sized toy is affordable for the average middle class dude. Sure, he’ll be charged high interest rates but, for most, it is a price worth paying for trips around Never-Never Land.
There are other sensible features that come with this SUV. It has fire-resistant leather and particular “zones” that absorb the shock waves formed during a collision. These elements make the vehicle safer for passengers if there is an accident. The shock resistant zones reduce the amount of damage to the shell of the SUV.
Even more than its powerful shield, the Scorpio comes equipped with tubeless tires—a must have for any man-child. When he takes those curves at 100/km, hits a pothole on the road and blows out a tire, he won’t have to worry about an accident. As a tubeless tire goes flat, a hole forms in the rubber slowly releasing air. He can fix it with his handy repair kit.
In fact, the possibilities appear endless given that the Special Edition is a Micro Hybrid and an SUV! But, this is where the engineers lost their way because the “hybrid” portion of the SUV only means that it saves a small percentage of fuel costs when the car is idle; it is barely a first step towards SUV design that functions on sustainable energy. Sadly, it is difficult to reason with a child and the Scorpio’s market demands this product.
